The Jacoby originally housed the Jacoby Furniture store (1904–1997), one of Alton’s longest lived and most successful business institutions. The Jacoby occupies a prominent location in the downtown revitalization effort – adjacent to the planned Central Park and across East Broadway from The Wedge Innovation Center. It currently houses The Jacoby Arts Center with gallery, event space, arts education, and artist studios. The vacant upper floors are designed to house 18 apartments with amenities that include a roof terrace with sweeping views of the Mississippi River, Central Park, and the Audubon Center at Riverlands.
